Salzburg- Austria: "The stage of the world"

The City of Salzburg, Mozart's birth city and the capital of the province bearing the same name, is not only famous for its ingenious son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Salzburg is rich in tradition, history and culture and of unique charm. Its contemporary Old City represents one of the most complete baroque ensembles of churches, palaces and buildings in the world. The dominating Fortress of Hohensalzburg, which successfully guarded the city for more than 900 years, is considered to be the best-preserved medieval fortress in all of Central Europe.

Back in the winter of 1797/98 the world traveller, Alexander von Humboldt, proclaimed Salzburg to be one of the three loveliest cities in the world. Almost exactly 200 years later UNESCO nominated Salzburg's city centre as part of the world's cultural and natural heritage.

As the host of the world-famous Festival, Salzburg is the world's cultural nucleus each year, with more than 200.000 spectators, watching drama and music of highest quality.

Last but not least Salzburg was the site of one of the most successful movies of all times, THE SOUND OF MUSIC.
